SAN JOSE, Ca. – The Giants scored 10 runs with two outs and in every inning after the second as the Ports dropped the series opener in San Jose 12-2 on Tuesday evening at Excite Ballpark.

It was the Ports’ ninth straight loss to the Giants.

With two outs and nobody on in the third inning, Aeverson Arteaga gave the Giants (59-44) a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left center off Ports’ starter Grant Judkins.

After the Ports (35-68) tied the game at one with a run on a sacrifice fly by Jhoan Paulino in the top of the fourth, the Giants came back with single runs in each of the next two innings. San Jose took the lead on a two-out double down the left field line by nine-hitter Anyesber Sivira to drive in Adrian Sugastey from second base and added on with another in the fifth on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Sugastey to score Arteaga from third base to make it 3-1 Giants.

Trailing 5-1 after a two-run homer off the bat of Grant McCray, the Ports got one back in the top of the seventh when Jhoan Paulino led off the top of the seventh with a long solo home run off Giants’ reliever Jose Cruz to cut the Stockton deficit to 5-2.

The Giants, however, tallied two more in the bottom of the seventh when Sugastey clubbed a two-run shot to left center off Ports’ reliever Robin Vazquez. San Jose then put the game away with five two-out runs in the bottom of the eighth with runs scoring on a wild pitch, an RBI single by Jared Dupere and a bases-clearing, three-run double by Yorlis Rodriguez to put the game out of reach at 12-2.

San Jose reliever Ben Madison (1-1) got the win, giving up just one hit over two shutout innings. Judkins (3-4) took the loss for Stockton surrendering two runs on four hits over four innings.

The Ports will look to even the series in game two on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch coming at 1:00 pm at Excite Ballpark in San Jose.
