Offense Backs Troconis' Strong Start in 9-4 Win

FRESNO, Calif. – Another three-homer game led to a win for the Ports (29-23, 56-62), as they took down the Grizzlies 9-4 to tie the series at 2-2 and increase their lead over Fresno (27-26, 63-55) by two games for the Cal League North second-half playoff spot.
Fresno got a run off starter Donny Troconis in the first inning, but he would settle in from there, providing some important length on the mound for Stockton’s exhausted bullpen.
The Ports answered quickly in the second inning, with a single by Alex Sosa, a double from Gavin Turley, and an RBI groundout for Bryan Andrade to tie the game at 1-1. Stockton took the lead in the third on a two-run homer (5) by Drew Burress that left the stadium all together over the left field bleachers for a 3-1 Ports lead.
A solo home run for Turley (12) off the batters’ eye in straight-away center extended the Stockton lead to 4-1. Edgar Montero would single home Roman Martin later in the inning and the Ports had a 5-1 edge. An RBI single for Andrade in the fifth scored Alex Sosa after his bloop double to put Stockton in front 6-1.
Troconis would run into some real trouble for the first time on the night in the sixth. A walk and a single were followed by a three-run homer for Jack Natili (2) to cut it to a 6-4 game. Troconis would go 5.1 innings allowing four runs to set himself up for his first win of the season.
His offense would back him up again, as Andrade singled home Sosa for the second time on the night to make it 7-4 Ports in the seventh. A solo home run for Max Durrington (4) out to deep right in the eighth made it 8-4, and a Sosa double (4) to score Burress in the ninth made it 9-4 Stockton.
Mason Patel delivered 2.2 scoreless innings to set up Kade Brown’s scoreless ninth inning, securing the win for the Ports.
UP NEXT: Game five is slated for a 6:50 PM first pitch with LHP Brady Parker (8-3, 3.71) going for Fresno up against LHP Jackson Phipps (4-4, 7.43) for Stockton.
