Ports Shutout Visalia in Pitchers' Duel

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Ports' Corey Braun no-hit Visalia for six innings on Wednesday night, and Stockton pulled out a 1-0 victory to tie the six-game series 1-1 and stay within one game of first-place Fresno in the Cal League North second-half standings.

Braun was perfect through 5.2 innings before issuing a two-out walk to Titus Cissell, but got a groundout to second to end the frame and keep the no hitter alive. He finished with a professional-high nine strikeouts and just the one walk allowed in a career night for the eighth-round pick in the 2025 draft out of South Florida.

The Rawhide would break up the no hitter with one out in the seventh against the A’s 10th-round pick in this year’s draft out of Cincinnati in Dominic Mauro, but he would escape a bases-loaded jam to preserve the shutout, flashing his big fastball in the process.

Stockton got their lone run in the second inning after Bryan Andrade doubled (13) down the third base line and Max Durrington beat out an infield single down the first base line. When Rawhide first baseman Pedro Blanco realized he wasn’t going to outrace the speedy Durrington to the bag, he tried to toss the ball to the covering pitcher Daury Vasquez, but the throw got away and allowed Andrade to score for a 1-0 Ports lead.

Mason Patel pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning in his professional debut, as the undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech got a great running grab by Bobby Blandford on a shallow fly ball to right to start the inning.

Jackson Holmes got around a two-out, full-count walk with a groundout to second baseman Michael Brooks to end the ballgame and collect his third save of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Tonight was the second time in the Ports last two home stands they’ve carried a no hitter into the seventh, after Jackson Phipps fired 6.2 no hit innings against Lake Elsinore on August 1. Braun has allowed just two earned runs over his last 21.1 innings pitched.

Durrington was the only player to record multiple hits in the contest, registering his 14th two-hit game of the year. Stockton is now 14-10 in one-run games and 26-10 when they don’t commit an error.

UP NEXT: Game three is scheduled for a 7:05 PM first pitch with LHP Wilkin Paredes (2-4, 4.92) starting for Visalia while RHP Shotaro Morii (0-3, 14.85) will function as the opener for Stockton.
