On the back of a two-RBI double by César Salazar, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (W, 11-5) topped the Round Rock Express (L, 7-9) 3-2 on Tuesday night at Constellation Field.

RHP Misael Tamarez (W, 2-0) took the mound for the Space Cowboys. Although he found himself in trouble in the second inning, he pitched 5.1 innings of two-hit ball, giving up two runs, none earned, striking out one with four walks.

Round Rock got on the board first in the second inning on a bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly by Jantzen Witte. Their lead did not last long, as in the bottom of the third, the Space Cowboys strung together a couple of walks and a hit to load the bases for Salazar. Salazar took a sinker from reliever RHP Damian Mendoza (L, 0-1) and drove it to the right-center gap, clearing the bases, aided by a throwing error from Sandro Fabian, giving Sugar Land the 3-2 lead after three frames.

A flurry of defensive plays from the Space Cowboy fielders helped keep the Express at bay. In the second inning, Salazar gunned down the speedy Elier Hernandez to keep him from stealing second base. In the sixth inning, Trey Cabbage threw a strike from left field to second baseman Jesús Bastidas to nab Jax Biggers trying to extend his single into a double.

Brilliant relief performances by LHP Parker Mushinski (H, 2), RHP Dylan Coleman (H, 2), and RHP Logan VanWey (S, 1) kept the Express from scoring the tying run. They combined to pitch 3.2 innings, giving up one hit, three walks and striking out four.

The Space Cowboys play their second game of a six-game series against the Round Rock Express Wednesday night. RHP AJ Blubaugh (1-0, 0.00) is set to take the mound for a 6:35 pm CT first pitch against Round Rock’s RHP Owen White (0-2, 7.30). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV, MLB.TV or Bally Live.
