Skeeters Lose in Extras to Round Rock

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) – The Sugar Land Skeeters lost 5-4 to the Round Rock Express in extra innings on Monday night at Constellation Field.

Yonny Hernandez scored the winning run for Round Rock in the 10th inning on a throwing error from Francis Martes attempting to pick off a runner at first base. Martes was handed the losing decision while Round Rock right-hander Jake Lemoine collected the win and Joe Barlow notched the save.

Monday’s loss was the Skeeters’ first extra-inning game this season. The tying run was left on third base to end the game.

Round Rock took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning, backed by a three-run home run from Curtis Terry. The Skeeters knotted the game at 4-4 an inning later. Abraham Toro hit a triple off the center-field wall and was driven in by Bryan De La Cruz. Colton Shaver drove in De La Cruz with a single to tie things up.

De La Cruz opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. De La Cruz has logged three three-RBI games this season, which leads the Skeeters.

The Skeeters and Express close out their series at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night at Constellation Field. Chad Donato will get the start for the Skeeters against Round Rock left-hander Brock Burke.
