Rosenbaum, Chiefs ace Bulls 2-1

Left-hander throws seven scoreless in win
April 27, 2013

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, defeated the Durham Bulls, 2-1, on Saturday night. Left-hander Danny Rosenbaum threw seven scoreless innings, and Will Rhymes and Chris Marrero knocked in the lone RBIs to give the Chiefs the victory in the first of a four-game series.

Syracuse (9-13) broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a Eury Perez single and steal of second, Jeff Kobernus singled into right field, moving Perez to third. With runners on the corners, Will Rhymes singled into right field, scoring Perez from third base and giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Chris Marrero, singled into left field, scoring Kobernus for a 2-0 lead.

Those two runs were all the Chiefs needed behind Danny Rosenbaum's stellar performance on the mound. Rosenbaum went seven scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and two walks in the effort. His E.R.A. was lowered to 1.14 and would later pick up his second win of this season.

Durham (15-8) finally got on the board in the top of the ninth inning. Rich Thompson began the inning with a walk and a steal of second. Thompson moved to third when Carlos Maldonado's throw sailed into center field. A few pitches later, Jason Bourgeois grounded out to first, scoring Thompson from third. But closer Erik Davis would rebound with two consecutive strikeouts to end the game and earn his second save of the season.

Syracuse continues its homestand Sunday when it plays the second of a four-game set against Durham at 7:00. The Chiefs send right-hander Ross Ohlendorf to the mound against J.D. Martin for the Bulls.
