Gómez homers for second straight day, but Mets lose to RailRiders, 14-3

Syracuse, NY - On a rare off day for the Syracuse pitching staff, the Mets allowed a season-high 14 runs in a 14-3 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Sunday afternoon in front of 5,494 fans at NBT Bank Stadium. Despite the loss, Carlós Gomez hit a two-run home run for the second straight game.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (15-12) jumped out with a five-run top of the first inning.
Syracuse (17-13) scored a run in the bottom of the first.
The RailRiders added three more runs in the third. Miller walked, and Higashioka homered over the left-field fence for a 7-1 lead. From there, Manny Alvarez reached on a two-base error on
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre piled on in the fourth.
The Mets scored a pair of late runs with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs and Guillorme at first base, Gómez hit a two-run home run over the left-center field wall, trimming the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 14-3.
Syracuse is off on Monday before traveling to Louisville on Tuesday for the first game of a three-game series against the Bats. First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
