Chiefs announce 2013 schedule
The Chiefs are slated to open the 2013 season on Thursday, April 4, on the road at Lehigh Valley. That contest will be the first game of a season-opening seven-game road trip that includes four games against the IronPigs and three more against the Buffalo Bisons.
The IronPigs will also be the opponent on Friday, April 12 when the Chiefs open the home portion of their schedule. First pitch for the 17th home opener at Alliance Bank Stadium is scheduled for 2:00pm.
The Chiefs are once again scheduled to take on each of their five IL North Division rivals 16 times apiece (8 home, 8 away) for a total of 80 games and will face the other 8 IL teams 8 times each (4 home, 4 away) for a total of 64 games. The complete 144-game schedule will be completed within a 152-day period ending on Monday, September 2.
The team's longest homestand will take place from June 6 to June 16. Syracuse will play 10 home games over that 11-day span, taking on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees twice before hosting the Pawtucket Red Sox and Toledo Mud Hens for a pair of four-game series. The schedule also includes four separate eight-game homestands over the course of the season.
The 2013 slate also has the Chiefs involved in three scheduled Sunday doubleheaders: April 14 vs. Lehigh Valley, June 23 at Gwinnett, and July 7 at Buffalo. The Chiefs will also play home games on five different holidays next season: Mother's Day (May 12), Memorial Day (May 27), Father's Day (June 16), Independence Day (July 4), and Labor Day (September 2).
The Chiefs will wrap up the home portion of their 2012 schedule with a pair of games this weekend against the Rochester Red Wings. Game time on Saturday is 7:00pm while Sunday's home finale is slated to begin at 2:00pm.
