Alvarez, Yankees Beat Miracle in Walk-Off Fashion

TAMPA, Fla. - Mandy Alvarez brought home the winning run with a two-out RBI single in the 13th inning as the Tampa Yankees (2-3) defeated the Fort Myers Miracle (1-4), 4-3, on Monday evening at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Both sides played sloppy, with the teams combining for five errors and five unearned runs.

Casey Scoggins led off the game by reaching on a misplay at second base by Nick Solak . Scoggins later scored on an RBI single by Chris Paul, giving the Miracle an early 1-0 lead.

Tampa starter Zack Littell was tagged for a second unearned run in the third. Daniel Kihle singled and later scored on a missed catch at third base by Abiatal Avelino.

Littell labored through four innings in his Tampa Yankees debut, exiting after yielding a leadoff single by Alex Perez in the fifth. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs on six hits and two walks, striking out three and throwing 53 of 84 pitches for strikes.

RHP Josh Roeder entered in relief and retired the first four batters he faced before giving up a solo home run by Nelson Molina in the sixth. Roader allowed the one run on two hits in three innings, striking out three.

Miracle starter Randy LeBlanc scattered five Tampa hits throughout seven shutout innings, tallying eight strikeouts while not allowing a walk. The righty threw 61 of 85 pitches for strikes and received a no-decision.

The T-Yanks rallied in the eighth against an old friend. Fort Myers brought in former Tampa Yankee LHP Jonny Drozd from the bullpen.

Sharif Othman hit a leadoff single and advanced on a passed ball. One out later, Kyle Holder reached second on a ball that bounced through the legs of first-baseman Zander Wiel, allowing Othman to score. Holder would be tagged out on his way to third as Solak reached on a fielder's choice. A walk by Tito Polo placed the tying runs aboard and back-to-back RBI singles by Trey Amburgey and Austin Aune tied the game.

RHP Christian Morris relieved Roeder in the eighth and tossed four shutout innings, scattering three hits while striking out a pair. RHP Cody Carroll (W, 1-0) worked around a leadoff walk in the 12th and struck out four of the next six batters.

Amburgey drew a walk against LHP Anthony McIver (L, 0-1) with one out in the bottom of the 13th. One out later, Jhalan Jackson walked before Alvarez heroically ended the game.

Solak (3-for-6, R) paced the offense with three hits. Amburgey (1-for-5, BB, RBI, R), Aune (1-for-6, RBI) and Alvarez (1-for-5, BB, RBI) each collected their first RBI of the season.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. LHP Josh Rogers (0-0, -.-- ERA) is slated to be added to Tampa's roster and make his season debut.
