A chance for the Tampa Tarpons to claim the final Florida State League North Division postseason spot took a hit on Sunday as the Lakeland Flying Tigers moved into sole possession of first place in the second-half standings by defeating the Tarpons in both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Tampa Tarpons tallied a season-high seven extra-base hits in a 6-1 victory in the series-opener before the Dunedin Blue Jays split the doubleheader with a walk-off, 5-3 win on Saturday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Dunedin (31-26, 72-50) is playing the series as the "home" team due to renovations at Dunedin Stadium.
