He spent most of his time playing catcher, where he accumulated a .992 fielding percentage. In 2009, Gil started the season in Tampa for 29 games before being promoted to the New York Yankees Double-A Affiliate, the Trenton Thunder. With Tampa, Gil had 96 at-bats, 10 runs, and 20 hits.

In 2010, Gil re-joined the Tampa Yankees for 40 games, and was with the team when they won their second consecutive FSL title. In his 141 at-bats, he had 36 hits, 17 runs, five homeruns, and 19 RBI. His fielding percentage as catcher totaled .997 in 39 games.

Gil will display his abilities this spring to the New York Yankees coaching staff, and continue climbing the Minor League ladder.
