Gainey named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week

July 29, 2013

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitcher Preston Gainey allowed one hit over seven shutout innings in his lone start last week. That performance got him noticed as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week.

Gainey, the 11th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 draft, went picked up the win as he walked three and struck out one in Wisconsin's 9-1 win over the Clinton LumberKings on July 24.

"I've been focusing a lot on my mental approach to pitching, just kind of relaxing," Gainey told MiLB.com after his performance. "A lot of times, I catch myself trying to do too much. I overpitch, almost, and try to be too perfect. Tonight, I was relaxed and throwing the ball over the plate."

Gainey is the second Timber Rattlers player to be honored by the Midwest League for a weekly award this season. Tyrone Taylor was named the Player of the Week on June 10th.

The Timber Rattlers conclude their current homestand on Monday night with a game against the Burlington Bees at 7:05pm. Wisconsin heads out on the road for four games from July 30 to August 2 before returning to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium to face the Beloit Snappers in a four game series from August 3 to August 6. Ticket are available for all remaining home games at TimberRattlers.com.
