GRAND CHUTE, WI - Milwaukee Brewers legend Jim Gantner will be the special guest when the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers host their annual Welcome Home Banquet in the Fox Communities Credit Union Fox Club at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The annual event will be held on Wednesday, April 5, the day before the team opens its 2017 season.
The doors to the ballpark open at 5:30 pm. There will be a scheduled autograph session with the 2017 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and a social hour from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. An interactive question and answer program with the players and coaching staff of the Timber Rattlers and Gantner will follow dinner.
"This annual event has been taking place for over 50 years and we are excited to keep the tradition rolling," said Timber Rattlers president Rob Zerjav. "It is always fun to get to know the new players a little bit better and we are really pleased that longtime Brewer and Wisconsin native, Jim Gantner, will be joining us."
Gantner played his entire 17-season Major League career with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers selected him in the 12th round of the 1974 draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Gantner made his MLB debut on September 3, 1976. He was part of Milwaukee's American League Championship team in 1982 and scored the go-ahead run on Cecil Cooper's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning of the Brewers' ALCS Game Five win over the California Angles. Gantner would go 8-for-24 with four doubles, a triple, four RBI, and five runs scored for the Brewers in the 1982 World Series.
Dinner will consist of: A house garden salad with dressing, dinner rolls, beef chateau and savory chicken, mashed potatoes, chef's choice vegetables, and apple-raspberry crisp for dessert.
There is also a vegetarian option (mushroom asparagus risotto) and a child's option (breaded chicken tenders with French fries and a sliced fresh fruit cup) available on request when ordering tickets for the event.
