LumberKings rule over Wisconsin

Clinton tops Rattlers 3-1

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Clinton LumberKings defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-1 on Friday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tyler Pike allowed three hits over six scoreless innings and the LumberKings scratched out single runs in the fourth, seventh, and eighth to beat Wisconsin.

Clinton (49-53 overall, 16-17 second half) scored a run in the top of the fourth without a hit. DJ Peterson walked to start the inning and went to second on a wild pitch. A slow grounder up the third base line got him to third base. Gaby Guerrero drove in Peterson with a ground out to third.

Wisconsin (42-56, 13-20) did threaten in the bottom of the sixth. Pike got the first two outs of the inning. But, Mike Garza and Parker Berberet followed with singles. Pike escaped the inning with a strikeout. He ended his six innings with five strikeouts.

The LumberKings added a run in the top of the seventh. Tim Lopes doubled to start the inning. A single by Ketel Marte drove in Lopes for a 2-0 lead. Lopes added a run scoring fielder's choice in the top of the eighth to drive in Gaby Guerrero for a 3-0 lead.

Tyler Roberts doubled to start the Wisconsin ninth inning against Oliver Garcia. Roberts was the first Rattlers batter to leadoff an inning by getting on base. Roberts was still at second base with two outs. Then, Chris McFarland singled to right to knock in Roberts to help Wisconsin avoid the shutout and bring the tying run to the plate. Tyrone Taylor hit it hard, but right at the centerfielder to end the game.

The loss knocked the Timber Rattlers to a season low of fourteen games under .500.

The Timber Rattlers begin a three game series with the Burlington Bees on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Jorge Lopez (4-6, 5.54) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Burlington sends Nic DellaTorre (0-3, 6.30) to the mound. Game time is 6:35pm.
