Kozma homers to snap losing streak

First win at home for Toledo since April 6
April 21, 2019

Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens (6-10) rallied back from a two-run deficit in Sunday's 11-9 win over the Columbus Clippers at Fifth Third Field.

Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens (6-10) rallied back from a two-run deficit in Sunday's 11-9 win over the Columbus Clippers at Fifth Third Field.

In the seventh inning, with the Mud Hens trailing 9-8, Pete Kozma posted his second home run of the season en route to erasing a six-game losing streak.
Toledo, who last won at home on April 6, picked up two runs from RBI singles by Victor Reyes and Kozma in the second.
Reyes finished the weekend series recording six of his 13 total runs batted in to lead the Mud Hens.
In the six games that Kozma has been in the starting lineup, he's finished with at least one hit in five, reaching first on a soft fly ball to center field that dropped before Oscar Mercado could extend his glove.
Sunday marked the sixth game in which Toledo has scored first.
Mikie Mahtook would bat third in the third inning, extending his hit streak to five games on a sliding triple, bringing home Dawel Lugo and Josh Lester for the 4-0 lead.
The 2011 Tampa Bay Rays first-round draft pick is batting .411 with four RBIs since being outrighted from the Detroit Tigers last week.
Toledo commanded its largest scoring margin the following batter on a sacrifice fly to center field by Harold Castro.
Castro is the second Mud Hens player to reach double-digit RBIs (10) through the latter half of April.
The Clippers went to their bullpen to begin the fourth inning with starter Chih-Wei Hu walking two, striking out five and allowing seven hits.
R.C. Orlan stayed on the mound for three innings in which he surrendered two runs to Castro and Josh Lester.
Lester was added to the roster Thursday when the Tigers recalled Brandon Dixon prior to their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox. Lester previously batted .250 in 10 games played for Double-A Erie this season.
Toledo starter Beau Burrows entered the fifth inning having only allowed one hit. The 2015 Tigers first-round draft pick would be pulled after the Clippers bounced back on a two-run double and two-run home run from Mike Papi and Brandon Barnes, respectively.
Burrows came into his fourth start yielding the lowest WHIP and third highest strikeout count among Mud Hens pitchers.
The second two-run blast of the game for Columbus would cut the deficit to one in the sixth.
Signed by Detroit as a non-drafted free agent in 2012, Sandy Baez rendered his seventh hit and sixth earned run of the year to Tim Federowicz, who cleared the left field wall before Mercado singled for the 7-7 tie.
The first lead for the Clippers came off José Manuel Fernández in the seventh.
A long fly ball to deep left-center was misplayed for Bobby Bradley to register the two RBI double. It'd be the biggest blown lead by Toledo this year.
Before Kozma's game-winning blast to left field, Reyes brought the Mud Hens to within one on a single that scored Castro.
