Rodriguez continues streak in Hens loss

Comeback not enough as Hens fall to Clippers, 11-5

Ronny Rodríguez recorded his 17th straight game with a hit going 2-for-5 with two RBI in the Toledo Mud Hens 11-5 loss to the Columbus Clippers on Monday night at Huntington Park.

Rodriguez paces the International League with 17 games in a row notching a hit. The closest to Rodriguez is Curt Casali of Durham with a hit in 12 consecutive games.
The Clippers (21-21) jumped on the Mud Hens (28-14) early scoring three runs in the first inning. Columbus added two more runs in the second.
In the top of the fourth inning, Jim Adduci recorded a one out double with a shot off the left-field wall. Chad Huffman followed it up by lifting his fourth homerun of the campaign over the left-field fence giving him his twelfth and thirteenth RBI. Huffman finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a homerun.
In the bottom half of the inning, Columbus would add four additional runs with a score of 9-2 after four in favor of the Clippers.
The Mud Hens would march a comeback in the eighth inning scoring three runs with two outs. With the bases loaded, and Rodriguez at the plate, a wild-pitch was thrown and Huffman scored. Later in the at-bat, Rodriguez knocked a single into left-field scoring Edwin Espinal and Kenny Wilson. The score after the top half of the eighth inning was 10-5 in favor of the Clippers.
Ryan Carpenter started on the bump for Toledo allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits while striking out two batters and walking none.
Kurt Spomer entered the game with no outs and the bases loaded. Spomer tossed two innings allowing no runs on two hits, a walk and punched out one batter.
In the sixth inning, Victor Alcántara came in to throw two innings for the Hens striking out three batters but allowing one earned run on four hits and zero walks.
Kevin Comer entered the game to pitch in the eighth inning. Comer allowed one earned run on three hits and recorded one strikeout.
At the plate, Espinal went 2-for-4 with a run scored in his third game back of the DL after taking a pitch to the face on May 11 at Louisville.
What's Next:
The Mud Hens are back in action tomorrow night against the Columbus Clippers. First pitch from Huntington Park is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
