Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Cubs extended their streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run in the playoffs to 36 with a 2-0 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs in game two of the FSL Championship on Saturday.

RHP Ivan Pineyro (W, 3-1, 1-0) pitched a season-high seven innings, and allowed three hits, all singles, with one walk and seven strike outs. Pineyro has not allowed a run in four of his last nine starts and has tossed 13 scoreless innings against Charlotte this season.

"I told my teammates that this was the biggest game of the season," Pineyro said. "I said we need to go out and play good and play hard and we will win."

Pineyro struck out each of the first five batters he faced in the game.

"I had a good feeling with my fastball, curveball and change-up tonight," Pineyro said. "I told Krist to set up on the corners and I will hit the glove."

Daytona has used 10 different pitchers in four postseason games without allowing an earned run.

The only thing in the game that took attention away from Cubs pitching was what many called "the catch of the year" by CF Zeke DeVoss in the fifth. With the outfield playing shallow, DH Willy Argo lined a ball to deep center to lead off the fifth. DeVoss broke immediately and sprinted straight back towards the center field wall. About 20 feet before the warning track, DeVoss leaped head-first towards the wall and caught the ball fully extended with his entire body parallel to the ground. Within motion of the catch, DeVoss flipped over and landed on his feet to a rousing ovation by Jackie Robinson Ballpark crowd.

"The pitching has been so dominant the whole postseason," DeVoss said. "It was nice to be able to help out."

Daytona got on the board in the first inning. With two outs, 1B Dustin Geiger singled to left and scored when DH Dan Vogelbach lined an RBI double to left-center.

The Cubs added an insurance run in the seventh on two doubles. 3B Kris Bryant started the frame with a double down the left field line, and scored when C Chadd Krist grounded a ball that hit off the first base bag for a double.

LHP Frank Del Valle (S, 9, 1) finished the game with two scoreless innings. For the second-straight game, the Cubs loaded the bases in the ninth inning. However, Del Valle induced Argo to pop out to end the game and give the Cubs their 15th win in their last 16 games.

With the win, the Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Championship Series.

Daytona and Charlotte will play game three of the series on Sunday at Charlotte Sports Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
