Tortugas Double up Miracle on Jackie Robinson Night

Top Four in Lineup go 8-for-16 in Win

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Daytona offense clubbed nine hits, including its first homer at the Jack this year, in an 8-4 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle in front of 3,886 fans on Jackie Robinson Night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark Saturday.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Tortugas offense wasted no time getting on the board. Shed Long got the first of his three hits just two batters in to the bottom of the first, doubling home Daniel Sweet to get Daytona on the board. Nick Senzel followed with a double into the left field corner to score Long and tie the game at two after one frame.

Long struck again with another run-scoring double in the second, this time plating Sweet and Reydel Medina to put the Tortugas in front, 4-2. He went 3-for-4 on the night with three RBI and a run scored, while collecting his second multi-hit game of the year.

The Daytona offense came alive for three more runs in the fifth inning. Eight men came to the plate, with only one man being retired of the first six. Senzel grounded into a fielder's choice to forced in a run and Alfredo Rodriguez banged a two-run single to extend the Tortugas advantage to 7-3.

Gavin LaValley hit a massive blast over the batting cages in left field for his second homer of the season to close the scoring in the seventh.

Jesus Reyes (2-0) surrendered nine hits and four earned runs while striking out five batters in his seven innings of work.

Keaton Steele (0-2) permitted eight hits and seven runs, five earned, while fanning three over his five frames for Fort Myers.   

Opening Weekend and the series concludes on Easter Sunday at 1:05 p.m. LHP Ty Boyles (0-0, 0.00) and Miracle RHP Randy LeBlanc (0-0, 0.00) will make their second starts of the year. Easter marks the first of 12 Sunday t-shirt giveaways for the season in which the first 500 fans will receive one. Postgame includes kids running the bases and a helicopter candy drop. The pregame show begins at 12:45 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.  

Notes: Jesus Reyes is the first Daytona pitcher to go longer than six innings this season… The bullpen's scoreless streak increased to 24 innings, as Robert Stock didn't allow a run in two innings of work… Shed Long had three hits in a game for the first time since August 26, 2016 (4 hits vs. Clearwater)
