DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Bradenton Marauders scored three runs in the third, three in the sixth, and added some insurance in the ninth to seal the deal in a 7-3 victory over the Daytona Tortugas on Monday night in front of 1,796 Belly Buster Monday fans at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. It was Bradenton's seventh straight victory
Coming off of a 4-for-6, 7 RBIs, effort at the plate three days ago, Cole Tucker delivered once again for Bradenton. He got the Marauders on the board with a two-run double off of Tortugas starter RHP Vladimir Gutierrez in the third. He notched a huge two-run single with the bases loaded in the sixth off of RHP Austin Orewiler to extend the Marauder lead to 6-2 at the time. Jordan George chipped in as well with two RBIs for the visiting team.
Gutierrez (3-3) saw his three-game winning streak come to an end on Monday. He tossed five innings, permitting five hits, three earned runs, a walk, and seven strikeouts over 86 pitches. Orewiler yielded two runs on four hits and a walk in the first of his two innings on the hill. LHP Juan Martinez surrendered a free pass and fanned two in the eighth. RHP Sarkis Ohanian allowed two knocks and a run in the ninth.
While Chadwick Tromp couldn't extend his ten-game hitting streak, he did drive in his ninth run of the year with a sacrifice-fly in the fourth, scoring Reydel Medina, to cut the Marauder advantage to 3-1.
Shed Long produced the rest of the offense, going 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the eighth and an RBI base hit in the fifth. He now has 5 homers and 21 RBIs on the season, second most on the team.
The Tortugas begin their quest to win the series at 7:05 PM on Tuesday evening at The Jack. RHP Jesús Reyes (3-1, 3.86) looks to bounce back from his rough Education Day outing against RHP Mitch Keller (3-1, 2.54). It's Taco Tuesday and Silver Slugger Night at The Jack. The Metcare Pregame Show starts at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
Notes: Daytona has dropped five of its last seven games… Bradenton won a series opener at The Jack for the first time in its franchise history (1-8)…Vladimir Gutierrez has punched out at least seven batters in his last five starts…Shed Long had his first multi-RBI game since April 30th vs. Tampa (3 RBI in a 4-0 Tortuga win)…Nick Senzel was off on Monday for just the second time through the first 38 games this season
