(PK Park - Eugene, OR) - Norberto Obeso's first home run of the season combined with a five-run outburst in the top of the 7th inning was enough to propel Vancouver to a 6-3 victory in Eugene on Monday night and give them a series victory over the defending Northwest League Champions.
After scuffling for two straight nights at the plate, the Canadians made a handful of adjustments that proved helpful as they surged with the game for the taking. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the 7th inning, Vancouver busted out with five runs that included back-to-back RBI doubles from CF Chavez Young and RF Lance Jones as nine hitters came to the plate tallying the quintet of runs.
Eugene would tack on a late run, but Canadians RHP William Ouellette would snuff out any potential rallies with two solid innings to secure his first save of the season and improve Vancouver's record to 3-2 (.600) through the first series of the summer.
RHP Dany Jimenez was as good as any starter in the Canadians rotation the first time through as the Dominican right-hander allowed just one-hit over his five innings, a solo home run, and struck out five before leaving with the game tied at one.
LHP Miguel Burgos made his second appearance of the season going two innings and earned his first win of the season as Vancouver busted out with the five run inning on his watch while Ouellette managed the save.
Vancouver now returns home to Scotiabank Field and a sellout crowd for the opener set for Tuesday, June 20th at 7:05pm against North Division rival Everett (2-3). The Canadians will host the Aquasox (June 20-22) and the Spokane Indians (June 23-25) over the next six days to get the home portion of the 2017 schedule underway.
