(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - A five-run bottom of the 4th inning that was powered by a two-run double from 3B Jesus Severino and a triple from LF McGregory Contreras helped the Canadians top Spokane 7-3 on Saturday night and moves Vancouver to within just one game of top spot in the North Division.
Vancouver (11-12) scored early and often grabbing the game's opening run in the bottom of the 2nd inning when 3B Jesus Severino hit his second home run in three games, a solo blast that gave the C's a 1-0 lead.
SS Vinny Capra hit a sac fly in the bottom of the 3rd inning on his 22nd birthday scoring 2B Otto Lopez (single) to extend Vancouver's lead to 2-0.
A five-run outburst in the home half of the 4th inning put the game out of reach as the C's batted around sending all nine hitters to the plate producing five runs that included a two-run double from Severino and a bases clearing triple from McGregory Contreras that helped Vancouver build a 7-0 lead. At this point, the Canadians had scored 24 runs over the past 22 innings dating back to July 5th at Everett.
Canadians starter LHP Elio Silva (2-1) pitched five innings of four-hit baseball allowing a pair of earned runs that came in the top of the 5th inning. LHP Marcus Reyes pitched two innings allowing two hits and an unearned run before giving way to RHP Will McAffer of North Vancouver who pitched a pair of no-hit innings that helped the C's seal the Saturday night victory.
With the win, Vancouver improves to 11-12 (.478) on the season while Spokane falls to 8-15 (.348) with 15 games remaining in the first half of the Northwest League season.
Vancouver has a quick turnaround as the C's host Spokane on Sunday, July 8th at 1:05pm as part of an A&W Family Fun Sunday. This game was announced as SOLD OUT on Friday but tickets to Monday's series finale at 7:05pm. It's the Dog Day of Summer presented by Petcurean Pet Nutrition.
