(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After being held without a hit for the first six innings, Vancouver's offense caught fire late almost erasing a five-run deficit as the Canadians fell 5-4 to Everett on Wednesday night to fall to 2-4 (.333) on the early season.
Vancouver starter RHP Sean Wymer (0-1) had a tough professional debut going 1 2/3 innings of work allowing four earned runs on four hits as 2B Nick Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to left field as part of a four-run top of the 2nd inning. Everett would add a run in the top of the 3rd inning before the Canadians bullpen locked in over the final six innings.
Aquasox starter LHP Max Roberts (1-0) was outstanding over his six innings of work retiring the first eighteen (18) Canadians in order taking a perfect game into the bottom of the 7th. Roberts couldn't record an out in the 7th inning as he walked SS Vincent Capra, allowed a hit to CF Tanner Kirwer followed by a two-run double to left off the bat of 2B Nick Podkul which ended his night. RHP Ulises Perez was brought in and after retiring both PH Freddy Rodriguez and 1B Sterling Guzman , left a pitch up to C Reilly Johnson who quickly brought the C's to within a run by hitting a two-run home run onto the 'hey y'all!' Porch.
The Canadians would threaten in the 8th inning after 3B Bryan Lizardo led off with a double and CF Tanner Kirwer drew a walk off Perez, but Everett manager Jose Moreno brought in RHP Noah Zavolas who struck out 2B Nick Podkul to leave both runners on base and then retired Vancouver in order in the bottom of the 9th to secure the 5-4 Aquasox victory.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 2-4 (.333) while Everett moves back to .500 at 3-3. The Canadians and Aquasox will play game two of this current three-game series on Thursday, June 21st at 7:05pm as LHP Randy Pondler (0-1, 3.60) takes to the mound for Vancouver.
