Surge get Shutout in San Antonio

San Antonio, TX- The Wind Surge lost their second straight game to the San Antonio Missions 8-0 on Wednesday night as Wichita was shutout for the fifth time this season. The Missions scored first in the bottom of the third inning as Connor Hollis singled to left field to score

San Antonio, TX- The Wind Surge lost their second straight game to the San Antonio Missions 8-0 on Wednesday night as Wichita was shutout for the fifth time this season.

The Missions scored first in the bottom of the third inning as Connor Hollis singled to left field to score Ripken Reyes. Juan Fernandez and Thomas Milone followed with two RBI singles to plate three more runs to give San Antonio a 4-0 lead.

Fernandez scored another run on a wild pitch from Surge reliever Cody Laweryson in the sixth inning. Reyes hit an RBI single the next at-bat to score Milone and give the Missions a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Missions added two insurance runs in the seventh inning behind an RBI triple from Fernandez. Milone went on to single on a line drive to center field to score Fernandez and give San Antonio an 8-0 lead.

The Wichita bullpen pitched five combined innings, allowing four runs on five hits, and tallying seven strikeouts. Surge starter Kody Funderburk received the loss, falling to 7-4 on the season.

Notes: DaShawn Keirsey Jr. 's hit streak ended at six games… The Surge fell to 2-6 against the Missions this season and 16-28 against National League affiliates… Wichita is now 22-24 in road games this season. The Wind Surge remain in first place.

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume play against the San Antonio Missions tomorrow, August 4th for a 7:05 first pitch.
