SAN ANTONIO, TX - Jake Rucker’s four RBI game and solid pitching from Carlos Luna were not enough to hold back the San Antonio Missions tonight. The Surge lose the series opener 6-5 as the Missions score three ninth inning runs to stun Wichita.

It did not take long for the Surge bats to get hot. Brooks Lee, Yunior Severino, and Jake Rucker, the one, two and three batters, all started the game off with doubles. Rucker’s hit drove in his first two RBIs of the game. Patrick Winkel also got a RBI with a single to right field.

The second inning went nearly identical to the first for the Wind Surge. Lee hit another double. Jake Rucker also hit another double, nearly identical to his first, ripped down the third base line, that scored his other two RBIs in the game.

The Missions got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Pedro Castellanos singled on a line drive to center field. They failed to capitalize and left two men on base ending the inning with no runs.

Fate seemed to turn around for San Antonio. They were able to get a solo home-run out of Yorman Rodriguez on a fly ball to left field in the fourth. Two more runs were scored in the bottom of the sixth but this looked like it would be too little and too late.

In the bottom of the ninth the Missions loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter and Tirso Ornelas doubled on a sharp line drive to center field. Three runs were driven in for the Missions who won the game in a walk-off.

Carlos Luna only gave up one run in the four innings he pitched for the Wind Surge. He also recorded three strikeouts. Regi Grace pitched a scoreless eighth in his Wind Surge debut.

Wichita extends their losing streak to a season high five games.
