BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Aug. 16, 2018) - Thanks to a three-run sixth inning, Buies Creek pulled out a sweep-clinching, 5-2 victory over Winston-Salem on Thursday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
With the game tied at two, right-hander Connor Walsh (0-1) relieved Mike Morrison and started the sixth by loading the bases with walks to Osvaldo Duarte, Seth Beer and Bryan De La Cruz. Cody Bohanek followed by giving the Astros the lead for good with an RBI fielder's choice, plating Duarte to put Buies Creek (32-19, 69-51) up 3-2. Then, with Carlos Canelon batting, Walsh uncorked a wild pitch to allow Beer to score. Jonathan Arauz capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center.

Cristian Javier (4-4) earned the victory for the Astros, tossing three scoreless innings of relief and allowing just two hits while striking out three. Winston-Salem (30-19, 71-48) put runners on second and third in the ninth inning with one out, but Colin McKee struck out Laz Rivera and retired Ti'Quan Forbes on a groundout to earn his sixth save of the season.
Thursday marked the second time the Dash have been swept this year, with the other occurrence taking place from July 24-26 against Frederick at BB&T Ballpark.
For the third consecutive contest, Buies Creek plated the game's first run. Making his sixth start with Winston-Salem, Lincoln Henzman  issued a two-out walk to De La Cruz in the second. After Bohanek hit a single to put runners on first and second, Canelon drove home De La Cruz with an RBI single, putting the Astros ahead 1-0.
However, Winston-Salem took the lead for the first time in the series in the third. Forbes singled with one out against Astros starter Tyler Ivey, and Yeyson Yrizarri moved Forbes to third on a single to right. Luis González then stroked a sacrifice fly to center to knot the contest at one. After Nick Madrigal followed with a single, Blake Rutherford grounded an RBI single down the third-base line to give the Dash a 2-1 edge.
But, the Dash's advantage would be short-lived. J.J. Matijevic doubled with two outs against Henzman, and, on a 2-2 pitch, Osvaldo Duarte grounded an RBI single to center to tie the game at two.
The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Friday to kick off a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Right-hander Alec Hansen (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the start in the series opener against Blue Rocks right-hander Andres Sotillet (2-3, 5.64 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m. Fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
Promotions for the homestand include postgame fireworks and a Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Friday, and a City of the Arts celebration on Saturday.
