WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 7, 2020) – The Winston-Salem Dash snagged their first victory of the 2021 season, defeating the Rome Braves 8-3.

Right-hander Jason Bilous took the mound for the Dash and impressed in front of a sellout crowd. Bilous retired the first two frames in order, striking out the side in the second.

The Dash kept the energy rolling and had the bats rattling early. Lenyn Sosa cranked a solo dinger off Braves starter Jared Shuster into the left field grass in the first. Luis Mieses came through to score on a groundout by Harvin Mendoza to put the Dash ahead by two.

Rome fired back in the third inning, as Shean Michel singled and moved to third on an error by Mieses in right. Cody Mulligan towered a sacrifice fly to left field to push across Michel.

Jason Bilous began to falter as Rome struck again in the third. Beau Philip tied the game at 2, scoring on a two-bagger from Shean Michel. Michel advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on a passed ball to put the Braves up 3-2.

Luis Curbelo knocked the Braves out in the fifth. The third baseman slugged his second three-run home run of the season into the left-field grass to put the Dash over 5-3.

Taylor Varnell entered the game in the seventh inning and took the win, crossing up five batters through two frames of hitless baseball.

The Dash lineup backed Varnell by adding some insurance in the bottom of the seventh. Duke Ellis emerged from an early-season slump by hanging a fly ball to shallow left field. The slow-dropping hit tripped up a trio of Rome defenders, sending Henri Lartigue, Luis Mieses and Travis Moniot home.

Lane Ramsey (0 H, 0 R, 3 SO) landed the win after 1.1 innings pitched. Tanner Lawson bore the loss.

The two teams go head-to-head for game five on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., and fans can catch all the action at https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/fans/audio-listen-live. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 p.m.
