WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 11, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Greenville Drive 5-1 on Friday night at Truist Stadium.

Isaiah Carranza was handed the ball for the Dash and lasted three innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits.

Greenville took an early lead in the first as Cam Cannon doubled and scored on a single from Devlin Granberg. Carranza pitched out of the second inning unscathed, but allowed another run in the third as Brandon Howlett doubled to score Tyler Esplin from first.

Ryan Newman took Carranza out of the game after the righty gave the Drive a 2-0 lead on seven hits through three innings. Dan Metzdorf entered in relief and allowed a solo home run off the bat of Brandon Howlett—his third of the season—to put Greenville ahead by three.

Drive starter Chris Murphy exited the game after giving up an extra-base hit in the sixth. Murphy racked up five innings, one hit, no runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

Reliever Kaleb Roper made his 2021 MiLB debut and was rudely awakened by the Greenville bats in the seventh. Devlin Granberg sent a long fly ball to right center field causing Ian Dawkins and Alex Destino to collide. Both avoided serious injury but Granberg sped his way into third for a triple. Kole Cottam singled to drive in Granberg and push the Drive ahead 4-0. Dom D’Allesandro plated Cottam on another triple to give Greenville a comfortable 5-0 lead.

By no device of their own, the Dash tallied a run in the ninth, as Alex Destino walked and advanced to home on three different wild pitches. The Dash loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate twice but were unable to scratch another run, falling 5-1.

Isaiah Carranza (1-6) took the loss for Winston-Salem, while Chris Murphy (2-2) nabbed the win for the Drive. Brendan Nail earned his first save on the year.

The Drive even up the series at 2-2, and the Dash look to move ahead Saturday night as the two teams go head-to-head in a 6 p.m. showdown from Truist Stadium. Davis Martin will take the mound for the Dash. Iggy Suarez will hand the ball to Grant Gambrell. Pregame coverage starts at 5:45 on https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/team/broadcast-corner.
