GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 31, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash fell 11-7 in the fifth of a six-game series versus the Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday night at First National Bank Field.

Greensboro struck first against Dash hurler Isaiah Carranza with a two-spot in the first to take an early lead. Matthew Frazier and Liover Peguero went back-to-back on a single and a double which set the stage for Jared Triolo to drive Frazier in on a sacrifice fly to right field. Peguero followed immediately on a double off the bat of Lolo Sanchez.

Winston-Salem answered mightily in the road second to take a 4-2 lead. J.C. Flowers allowed a leadoff single to Luis Curbelo and walked the next two batters to load the bags. Lazaro Leal then drove in Curbelo on a liner to right field. Brandon Bossard fashioned a base knock to right field, pushing Gunnar Troutwine and Evan Skoug across the plate to put the Dash in front 3-2. The Dash tacked on one more in the fourth as Yoelqui Cespedes singled to left scoring Lazaro Leal.

The Grasshoppers matched with a four-run barrage in the third frame. Jared Triolo racked his second RBI of the day on a liner to left field to score Liover Peguero. Triolo was brought home on a two-run bomb to left field by Matt Gorski. Aaron Shackelford followed with a solo shot to right center field to put the Hoppers ahead 6-4.

A.J. Gill answered in the road fourth with a solo homer to put the Dash within a run of tying.

Lazaro Leal knocked a homer to left field in the sixth to tie the game, and A.J. Gill put the Dash ahead 7-6 on his second solo bomb of the day.

Matthew Frazier clapped back in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run blast to right center, marking his 20th round-tripper of the year. The Hoppers managed to tally another run as Declan Cronin struck out Matt Gorski with a wild pitch, bringing Liover Peguero home to put Greensboro in front 9-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, Peguero knocked his ninth home run on the year—a two-run shot to right center which sealed the fate of the game in favor of the Grasshoppers by the score of 11-7.

Oliver Garcia (4-2) collected a win for Greensboro. Newcomer Kevin Folman (0-1) took a loss for the Dash.

The two teams will square off in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at First National Bank Field with a first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. ET.
