BOWLING GREEN, KY (July 16, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash took their fourth consecutive loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods by the score of 11-4 on Friday evening.

The Hot Rods and Dash split the first inning at two runs apiece. Yolbert Sanchez knocked his fifth homer on the year—a two-run blast to center—to give the Dash an early 2-0 lead. A double from Curtis Mead and a single by Blake Hunt tied the game early.

Bowling Green carried the offensive stride into the second and gave Dash Starter Davis Martin a rough go, plating five runs. Greg Jones singled to score Connor Hollis and shift Hill Alexander to second. Alexander plated a run on a fielder’s choice groundout off the bat of Curtis Mead. Evan Edwards flashed some power with a three-run moonshot that marked his 11th on the year and throttled the Hot Rods to a 7-2 lead over Winston-Salem.

The Dash answered with a lone run in the third inning as Duke Ellis sent a ball over the wall in left center to record his fourth homer on the year and his second in the series against Bowling Green.

The Hot Rods tacked on two more in the sixth extending their edge to 9-3. Connor Hollis scored on a groundout by Pedro Martinez, after which Hill Alexander scored his second run of the night on a flyout from Curtis Mead.

Bowling Green upped the insurance in the eighth as Pedro Martinez laced a double into left field to plate Hill Alexander and Greg Jones and give the Hot Rods an 11-3 edge.

The Dash put up a small, but ultimately fruitless ninth-inning rally that scored only a run. Lenyn Sosa singled to lead off the inning, and Luis Curbelo doubled to drive Sosa home. A Gunnar Troutwine single and a Travis Moniot walk loaded the bags, but reliever Christopher Gau eventually pitched out of the inning and secured an 11-4 victory for Bowling Green.

Hot Rods starter Michael Mercado (1-4) collected his first win of the season. Davis Martin (2-5) took the loss for the Dash.

Bowling Green moves ahead in the series 4-0 and secures a series victory heading into game five on Saturday evening. First pitch from Bowling Green Ballpark is set for 6:35 p.m. CT.
