WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 5, 2021) - The Winston-Salem Dash dropped their third game of the season-opening homestand against the Rome Braves 5-2.

Johan Dominguez took the bump for the Dash and thwarted the Rome offense through five innings. The Santo Domingo, DR product diced through seven batters and gave up a single hit. Both teams traded zeroes through five, despite the Dash putting runners in scoring position in the first, second, and fourth innings.

The Dash took some offensive initiative in the fourth. Johan Cruz drove a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home Yolbert Sanchez and put Winston-Salem ahead 1-0.

In the fifth, Braves starter Ricky DeVito kicked his pitches into gear, making quick work out of the top of the Winston-Salem batting order, striking out the side

Dilmer Mejia made his season debut in relief of Dominguez. The Braves fed off the energy of DeVito, tying the game with a run of their own in the sixth frame. Shean Michel led off with a double to right-center and crossed home after consecutive base-knocks by Andrew Moritz and Riley Delgado.

Mejia ran into trouble in the seventh inning. Bryce Ball doubled to open up an extra-base hit parade for the Braves. Beau Philip smacked a double of his own to bring home Ball and the previously-walked Rusber Estrada. Mejia threw his last pitch of the night to strike out Jose Bermudez.

Vincenzo Aiello took over in hopes of stopping the bleeding. Instead, Cody Milligan drew a walk and scored on an Andrew Moritz base-hit to center field. The Braves ultimately put up four runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-1 lead.

The Rome bullpen fared well the rest of the game allowing only a solo home run to left by Alex Destino, the only road bump on the path to the Braves' third straight victory of the season.

The Dash took their third straight loss of the season. The two teams will meet again tomorrow for game four at Truist Stadium. Jared Shuster (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will be handed the ball for the Braves. Jason Bilous (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Winston-Salem.
