Abreu Homers Three Times, Dalbec Goes Deep Twice in 13-4 Rout of Bisons

WORCESTER, M.A. — A six home run afternoon powered the Worcester Red Sox (24-14, 63-50) past the Buffalo Bisons (20-18, 54-59) on Sunday, an offensive onslaught that gave the home team a 13-4 win at Polar Park.
Wilyer Abreu was the story of the afternoon, becoming the first WooSox player to three home runs and the first for a Red Sox Triple-A affiliate since Cole Sturgeon on September 2, 2019 on the last pitch ever thrown at McCoy Stadium.
Abreu, acquired in the Christian Vasquez trade with Houston last year, hit a 468-foot two-run shot in the first, a 457-foot solo homer in the fourth and a 418-foot two-run blast in the sixth, giving home a career-high 20 home runs.
Since the start of August, the 24-year-old is 18-for-40 (.450) with five walks, seven home runs, two doubles and 18 RBI over 11 games.
Bobby Dalbec put up a multi-homer day of his own, hitting solo homers in the first and eighth. With the swings, Dalbec reaches the 30-homer mark for the second time in his professional career (2018 with Salem/Portland).
Stephen Scott went back-to-back with Dalbec in the eighth, the last big swing of the 13-run, 14-hit day for Worcester. Scott’s homer extended the team’s International League-leading home run total, their 181st of the season.
The WooSox had nine total extra-base-hits, including RBI doubles by Christian Arroyo in the third and Enmanuel Valdez in the sixth. They scored in seven of eight offensive innings, also grabbing runs on a Ryan Fitzgerald RBI groundout in the third and a David Hamilton RBI infield single in the seventh.
On the mound, Rio Gomez tossed four innings of three-run ball, followed by Cam Booser who allowed one run over two innings and earned the win. Nick Robertson, Joe Jacques and Justin Garza combined to post a runless final three innings.
The WooSox are off Monday and continue the homestand with a six-game series, starting at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday night, against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, affiliate of the New York Yankees.
