Bryce Harper Lights up #QuAkron with 3 HRs, 5 RBI
(Akron, Ohio) June 28, 2014 - In his third rehab appearance at Canal Park for the Harrisburg Senators, Bryce Harper clubbed three home runs, helping the Senators to a 10-4 victory over the RubberDucks on Saturday evening.
Harper's three homers and a single pushed him to a 4-for-5 performance at the dish with five RBI. Harrisburg outfielder Caleb Ramsey went 5-for-5 on the night with five singles and crossed home four times for the Senators.
The Senators posted runs in all but two innings and scored one run in five-consecutive frames starting in the top of the second. Harrisburg recorded 19 hits, the most allowed by the RubberDucks bullpen this season. The previous mark for most hits allowed in a game was 14, on four different occasions.
The RubberDucks trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Tony Wolters got the offense going for Akron by ripping a double down the middle. Jordan Smith followed with an RBI single to bring the infielder across the plate. In his first night back with the RubberDucks, outfielder Ollie Linton knotted the game at 3-3 by crushing a two-run homer. It was his first homer for the RubberDucks and highlighted his 3-for-3 showing on the night.
The lead did not last long as Harper smacked his second home run of the night, another solo shot, to put the Senators ahead 4-3.
After Harrisburg posted another single run, the next scoring play of the game came in the top of the eighth when Harper cracked his third homer, this one bringing three across the plate and extending the Senators' lead to 8-3.
Smith clubbed his second RBI single of the night in the bottom of the eighth to add another run for the RubberDucks before the Senators scored two in the ninth to claim the 10-4 victory.
Harrisburg reliever Paul Demny (1-0) picked up the win after pitching three innings in which he allowed one hit and struck out three. Derek Self was awarded a save after throwing 1.1 innings and striking out one.
Akron starter Duke Von Schamann (3-2) (13 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 2 HR) took the loss. Von Schamann left the game after five innings of work. The Senators managed 13 hits off the righty, the most von Schamann has allowed this season.
In his first inning of relief for the RubberDucks, Toru Murata struck out the first three batters faced and stranded two runners on the corners. Murata allowed six hits, five runs, two earned and recorded four strikeouts in his fifth relief appearance this season
The RubberDucks and Senators will close out the four-game series at Canal Park on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. RHP Joe Colon (7-4, 2.84) will make the start for Akron while Harrisburg will send RHP Brett Brach (1-2, 5.63) to the mound. The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
