(AKRON, OHIO) Dec. 18, 2017 - The Akron RubberDucks announced today Baseball Hall of Famer and former Cleveland Indians all-star second baseman Roberto Alomar will headline the 2018 RubberDucks Hot Stove Banquet on Fri., Feb. 9 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Akron, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The annual Hot Stove Banquet is a celebration of baseball to help get fans prepared for another exciting season from the RubberDucks and Indians. Fans will have an opportunity to ask Alomar about his hall of fame career as well as his three seasons with the Indians from 1999-2001 when he was a three-time all-star and formed one of baseball history's most dynamic middle-infield combinations with shortstop Omar Vizquel. Both Alomar and Vizquel won three Rawlings Gold Gloves during their time together in Cleveland.
"We are thrilled to have Robbie Alomar headlining the RubberDucks Hot Stove Banquet," said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. "Last year's event was a lot of fun and exceeded our expectations. To follow that up with one of the greatest players in baseball history for this year, should only help the Hot Stove become a staple event in Northeast Ohio."
For the second consecutive season, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the West Akron Baseball & Softball League (WABL). "The best part of this amazing night is that we can give back to a tremendous organization such as WABL and all the great work it does for the youth in our community," said Pfander.
The doors open at 4:30 p.m. with cocktails and silent auction, which will feature autographed items from current Indians and RubberDucks, as well as some unique items donated by Alomar, who is a big proponent of youth baseball.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., a full-plated meal and dessert will be served (vegetarian option available), and the program and question-and-answer session will follow dinner. Attendees will have the opportunity to get Alomar's autograph after the program's conclusion.
The Hot Stove Banquet is open to the public and tickets may be purchased for $100 per person or $750 for a table with proceeds benefiting WABL.
