Turning Point

After surrendering the lead for the second straight inning, the RubberDucks took the lead for good in the 12th inning. Bo Naylor scored on a passed ball, before Tyler Freeman singled home Will Benson to make it 11-9. With starting second baseman Willy Yahn in to pitch for Bowie and the bases loaded, Oscar Gonzalez launched a grand slam to make it 15-9. Two batters later, Naylor doubled home another run before scoring himself on a Jose Fermin single to make it 17-9.

Mound Presence

Alex Royalty got the start for Akron and was rolling for the first four innings, striking out a season-high six batters while keeping the Baysox off the board. But in the fifth, Bowie scored four times, capped by a Yusnel Diaz two-run homer to take the lead and chase Royalty. In all, Royalty went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out a season-best seven. Skylar Arias relieved Royalty and tossed two innings, allowing one run while striking out three. Manuel Alvarez tossed a scoreless inning and a third. Juan Mota would allow two runs over two innings of work. Dakody Clemmer picked up the win, tossing two innings and allowing two runs.

Duck Tales

Akron struck first in the top of the third, when Freeman scored when Bowie catcher Chris Hudgins made an errant pickoff throw to first base. Freeman added a fifth-inning, two-run home run to make it 3-0. Fermin’s RBI single in the top of the eighth cut the Bowie lead to 5-4. Josh Rolette doubled home Fermin to tie the game, 5-5. Naylor led off the 10th inning with an RBI double to give Akron the 6-5 lead. After a sacrifice bunt, Rolette singled home Naylor for a 7-5 lead. Richie Palacios led off the top of the 11th with a two-run home run to give Akron the 9-7 lead. All nine starters for the RubberDucks were part of the season-high 23 hits, and eight of the nine scored among a season-high 17 runs.
