Summary

Strong pitching helped guide the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 6-3 win over the Akron RubberDucks on Friday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

After Akron jumped out to a 1-0 lead, New Hampshire answered back quickly in the top of the third when Orelvis Martinez launched a two-run home run to make it 2-1 Fisher Cats.

Mound Presence

Logan Allen struggled with the long ball to New Hampshire, allowing a two-run and a solo shot in the third and fourth inning. His final totals were four innings pitched, allowing seven hits, four runs, and three strikeouts. Luis Oviedo came on in relief and pitched one and a third innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Andrew Misiaszek tossed two and a third innings of scoreless work and striking out two. Manuel Alvarez would appear in the ninth and toss a scoreless inning.

Duck Tales

Akron started the bottom of the third inning off with a walk from Micah Pries, who promptly snagged second base with a steal. Jose Tena drove in Pries from second with an RBI single giving Akron a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, the inning looked to be over with a Tena popup to first, yet an error on the New Hampshire first baseman allowed a run to come across and make it 6-2 New Hampshire. Akron’s offense started showing some life in the bottom of the ninth, following back-to-back walks and an RBI single from Johnathan Engelmann to make it 6-3, but that is as close as the RubberDucks could get.

Notebook
