Summary
Ryan Webb tossed five scoreless innings while Chase DeLauter hit his first Double-A home run to power the Akron RubberDucks past the Erie SeaWolves 6-0 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Akron got the scoring started in the bottom of the second. Yordys Valdes lined a two-run double into the gap in right-center to bring home Dayan Frias and Milan Tolentino to make it 2-0 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Ryan Webb made his first start at Canal Park and was lights out. The left-hander scattered three hits and just one walk over his five scoreless innings. The only trouble Webb faced was in the top of the fourth when a two-out walk followed by an error loaded the bases. Webb was able to get a strikeout, the last of his six, to leave the bases loaded. Ross Carver followed with two scoreless frames. Jack Leftwich worked a scoreless eighth, and Andrew Walters stranded two on base in the ninth to complete the shutout.
Duck Tales
DeLauter kept the offense going in the third as he launched a solo home run into the Modelo Tiki Terrace to make it 3-0 RubberDucks. Later in the third, Joe Lampe picked up his first Double-A RBI by lining a double down the first base line to score Aaron Bracho and make it 4-0 Akron. After being held in check for the middle innings, the Ducks found their groove in the seventh as Kahlil Watson tripled before coming home on a DeLauter sac-fly to make it 5-0 RubberDucks. Kody Huff capped the scoring for the night by singling off the glove of a diving Ben Malgeri to score Tolentino from first to make it 6-0 Akron.
