The Albuquerque Isotopes will host their annual Native American Heritage Night on Saturday, August 8 featuring specialty Native American Heritage jerseys designed in partnership with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and renowned potter Evone “Snowflake” Martinez.

The Isotopes will hold an online auction of signed game-worn Native American Heritage jerseys with proceeds benefitting the Bob Chavez Scholarship for the Arts. The auction will begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday, August 8 and end at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 12. Click here for the auction link.

The club will also sell the limited-edition Native American Heritage jerseys exclusively in the Pro Shop during Native American Heritage Night with 10 percent of sales going to the Bob Chavez Scholarship for the Arts.

The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Native American Heritage specialty hat giveaway, presented and designed by the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Post-Game Fireworks, weather permitting, are also scheduled.

"Each one has a story," said Native American Heritage Night jersey designer Evone 'Snowflake' Martinez. "Each person creating these crafts has something specific in mind, and as they're designing the pieces in their own way, they're listening to the stories, to their memories. They're hearing a voice only they can hear. It's important that Native people really learn and listen—not just hear—but really listen to what you're being told and learn the old ways so that the next generation after you can continue the tradition. We are grounded in clay to Mother Earth, and we need to keep those roots deep or they will dry up.

"Since I began working on the design and doing my research, I was really proud of all the families that I was able to bring together on once piece and represent all of my people. We're not just talking about San Ildefonso or Cochiti or Jemez, it's all tribes represented in the state and even beyond the state. I hope people that see the jersey will see that they're connected to their relatives, because a lot of those designs are in the jersey. I hope people will feel they are connected to who they are. I hope they feel more grounded with themselves.

"I'd like to thank my daughter, my son, and my brother, who were some of my inspirations and helped me through the process. It's not about me, it's about my people and telling their story."

Evone "Snowflake" Martinez is from San Ildefonso and Cochiti Pueblos.
