ASHEVILLE'S ROSELL HERRERA WINS SECOND SAL TOPPS PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD

TOURISTS HAVE CLAIMED ALL THREE SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE HONORS THIS SEASON
August 13, 2013

ASHEVILLE, NC-Asheville Tourists shortstop Rosell Herrera, who was named the South Atlantic League's Topps Player of the Month for May, has been honored with the league's July Topps Player of the Month award. The Topps Company of New York, N.Y., in conjunction with Minor League Baseball™, announces the winners.

Rosell Herrera (20) of Santo Domingo, D.R., won the South Atlantic League honor for May when he hit .324 with five homers and 24 RBI. Teammate Tom Murphy took home the award for June. Last month, Herrera led the league in batting average (.391), hits (36) and tied for the lead with 13 extra-base hits. The Asheville Tourists shortstop finished second in OPS (1.049) and slugging (.598). The Colorado Rockies signed Herrera as a free agent in July 2009.

Heading into Tuesday night's game in Hickory, Herrera is batting .355 with only 20 games remaining in the season. The Tourists shortstop not only paces the League in batting average, but Hits (152), On-Base Percentage (.432), and Total Bases (233) as well. Rosell currently sits second in runs scored (79) while holding a steady third in RBI's (75), Doubles (33), and Extra-Base Hits (49).

Another indication of how dominant Herrera has been in this historic season--he has been intentionally walked more than any player in the league.

The Asheville Tourists return to McCormick Field on Tuesday, August 20th for a 7:05 contest against the Hickory Crawdads.
