Cedar Rapids cranked out 23 hits in their 12-2 throttling of the Snappers on Sunday. The Kernels swatted nine extra-base hits including two home runs and two triples, and the overall hit count was the most Beloit had allowed in a single game in their third 10-run loss of the year. The Snappers have now lost 13 of their last 16 games including seven straight on the road.
Already trailing 3-0, Beloit used three pitchers to get through the six-run fifth inning by Cedar Rapids. Snappers starter Kyle Twomey did not retire the first three hitters of the inning and was responsible for the first three runs before Beloit motioned for Jesus Zambrano from the bullpen. Zambrano only retired just two of his six batters in the inning and allowed three more runs before Yordys Alejo escaped the frame. Twomey allowed a Snappers season-high 12 hits including five doubles to the Kernels.
After going 20 innings without scoring with a five-game drought without a base hit with a man in scoring position, Beloit scored their first run in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Kyle Nowlin and Miguel Mercedes. Both sluggers recorded their team-best 25th two-bagger of the season while Nowlin bumped his hitting streak up to 11 straight games. Jesus Lopez highlighted his three-hit performance with an RBI double in the eighth. Josh Vidales went 2-for-4 and eight of the Snappers nine hitters recorded a base hit to total 11 knocks.
