The Snappers touched double digits in the hits column on Thursday night in Lansing, slugging their way to a 7-6 victory over the Lugnuts. Trace Loehr fell a homer shy of the cycle for the second straight game, although he did turn in another four-hit performance. He stepped to the plate in a tie game in the top of the ninth inning with a single, double and triple already to his name, but instead singled and eventually scored the game-winning run on Kyle Nowlin's bloop single to right field.
Lansing drew first blood against Beloit starter Kyle Twomey in the first on Nash Knight's RBI double. The Snappers answered with a four-run second inning, however, as Jason Goldstein and Mike Martin ripped back-to-back RBI singles before Loehr's two-run triple.
The Lugnuts slowly chipped away at their deficit, starting with a Ridge Smith RBI double in the third. Mitch Nay hit an RBI double in the fifth, and then Andres Sotillo knotted the game at 4-4 with an RBI single off of Beloit reliever Jesus Zambrano in the sixth. Lansing continued to knock around Zambrano in the seventh inning, as they took a 6-4 lead thanks to RBI knocks from Smith and Sotillo.
The Snappers rallied in the eighth, though. After Lugnuts reliever Geno Encina loaded the bases with no outs, Jesus Lopez made it a one-run contest with a sacrifice fly. Goldstein then tied the game at 6-6 with an RBI single, setting the stage for Nowlin's go-ahead hit in the ninth.
Loehr is now 8 for his last 11, raising his batting average from .248 to .267 in just two games. To go along with Loehr's outstanding performance, Goldstein, Lopez and Josh Vidales notched two hits apiece for the Snappers on Thursday.
