Snappers Bounce Back, Defeat Whitecaps 4-3 In Thriller

Austin Beck plated Nick Allen with his 15^th double of the season in the ninth inning in what would be the winning run in the Beloit Snappers (46-44) 4-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (47-46) Saturday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

After loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth, Snappers reliever Jaimeto Lebron retired three consecutive batters to preserve the win. The Snappers moved to 8-4 on the season when tied after the eighth inning and 21-13 in one run games.
The game got evened in the bottom of the eighth when Whitecaps Brock Deatherage singled home Kody Clemens, the son of Roger Clemens, to tie the game 3-3.
The Snappers got their first three runs in the fifth and sixth inning after both teams were held scoreless through the first four frames.
In the fifth, Skyler Weber blooped a single to left that scored Mickey McDonald to make it 1-0. Then in the sixth, Weber reached on a fielding error by Jordan Pearce that scored Jack Meggs and McDonald again.
The Snappers would hold that 3-0 lead for a few minutes, when the Whitecaps cut the deficit to one on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth by Brady Policelli to make it 3-2.
Starting for Beloit was right-hander Mitchell Jordan, who went 6.1 innings and gave up the two earned runs on the home run. Joseph Camacho and Josh Reagan pitched 1.2 innings in relief.
Deatherage's run was charged to Reagan and snapped a 14.2 scoreless streak by the Snappers bullpen. Reagan earned the blown save but then earned his third win of the season.
Beck's double in the ninth was the Snappers first and only extra base hit of the night. They now have at least one extra base hit in 22 of the 23 games played since the break.
The Snappers moved to 15-11 on the year in series openers and 29-12 on the season when they score first.
Game two of the series will pick up Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. from Fifth Third Ballpark. Starting on the mound for the Snappers is left-hander Jared Poche (5-6, 4.65). He will be opposed by right-hander Wilkel Hernandez (0-4, 5.28).
