Streich is on the Mark In 2-0 Shutout
BELOIT, WI - Seth Streich twirled six innings of shutout baseball and the Beloit Snappers silenced the Burlington Bees, 2-0, at Pohlman Field with a crowd of 853 on hand in Midwest League action on Sunday afternoon.
The Snappers have now won three in row to advance to 51-29 (8-2 in the second half). The Bees are headed in the opposite direction, having lost eight straight, and they are now 27-48 (1-9 in the second half).
Streich (9-4) was simply stellar in picking up his ninth victory. In six innings, he allowed only four hits and walked just one while striking out seven, matching his season-high. Streich retired the side in order in three of his six frames. The best threat Burlington mounted against him came in the fifth, when they put runners on second and third with one out, but Streich got Pedro Toribio and Wendell Soto on strikes to escape the jam.
Neither lineup could get anything going until the bottom of the fifth. A walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases with one out for Renato Nunez, who patiently waited out a walk to force in the game's first run. Matt Olson (1-2, RBI, SB) made the score 2-0 when he lofted a soft single into short left-center.
Beloit's bullpen took over in the seventh and they kept the pressure on the Bees. Kris Hall retired the side in order in the seventh and Stuart Pudenz went the rest of the way. Pudenz pitched a perfect eighth and didn't allow a run in the ninth, striking out Michael Bolaski for the final putout to seal the Snappers 2-0 win and his second save.
