BILOXI, MS – Tobias Myers recorded his second start of the year with at least 10 strikeouts while Jackson Chourio, Zavier Warren and Freddy Zamora all left the yard in a 7-0 win for the Biloxi Shuckers (19-12) against the Rocket City Trash Pandas (14-17) at MGM Park on Friday

BILOXI, MS – Tobias Myers recorded his second start of the year with at least 10 strikeouts while Jackson Chourio, Zavier Warren and Freddy Zamora all left the yard in a 7-0 win for the Biloxi Shuckers (19-12) against the Rocket City Trash Pandas (14-17) at MGM Park on Friday night. The win extended the Shuckers win streak to five, their longest of the year, and clinched their third series win of the year. It also gave manager Mike Guerrero 1,390 career wins, 10 away from 1,400 over his 25-year managerial career.

The Shuckers offense started in the first for the second straight game. After singles from Noah Campbell and Jackson Chourio to lead off the bottom of the first, a walk to Tyler Black loaded the bases before Freddy Zamora doubled to center to bring home two. The Shuckers extended the lead to 3-0 when Zavier Warren blasted his third home run of the series to lead off the second.

From there, Shuckers starter Tobias Myers settled in. Between the top of the first and the start of the sixth, he retired 13 straight batters, the second-longest streak of his season. The Shuckers gave him another run of support when Zamora homered to left for his fifth of the year.

Myers then recorded three straight strikeouts in the sixth, getting Livan Soto to swing and miss for his 10th strikeout of the night. He returned to the mound in the seventh, but was lifted after back-to-back runners reached with an out.

Luis Contreras entered for Biloxi for his 2023 Shuckers debut, and the righty dominated, recording five outs and five strikeouts while stranding the two inherited runners in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, top prospect Jackson Chourio lifted a 99 MPH fastball from Ben Joyce over the right field wall for his fourth homer of the year to extend the Shuckers lead to 7-0.

In the ninth, Harold Chirino made his first appearance since being activated off the injured list on Thursday, and retired the side in order after a leadoff double to close the game. The Shuckers recorded 12 of the final 14 outs by strikeout and earned their second shutout of the series.

Myers (3-0) earned the win for Biloxi while starter Landon Marceaux (2-3) took the loss for Rocket City. The two will meet on Saturday night at 6:05 on Boy Scout Night with a Shuckers replica home jersey giveaway presented by the Mississippi Forestry Commission for the first 1,000 fans.
