CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Biloxi Shuckers (19-18) bullpen continued its run of dominance against the Chattanooga Lookouts (18-18) with five scoreless innings, but six early runs and 17 strikeouts from the Lookouts staff helped Chattanooga to a 6-4 win over Biloxi at AT&T Field. The win marked the seventh straight at home for the Lookouts and the sixth straight loss for Biloxi.

The Lookouts took an early 1-0 lead with a home run from Noelvi Marte on the second pitch of the day from Shuckers’ starter Tobias Myers. The Shuckers battled back in the second when Wes Clarke snapped an 0-16 skid with an RBI single to right that scored Lamar Sparks from second. The run broke a 23.2-inning scoreless drought by the Shuckers.

In the bottom of the second, the Lookouts smashed back-to-back doubles after a leadoff error, with a double from Alan Cerda scoring two to make it 3-1. Marte then struck again with a homer, this time a two-run blast to right-center, to make it 5-1. They extended the lead to 6-1 in the next inning on an RBI double from Daniel Vellojin.

The Shuckers bullpen entered in the fourth, led by Zach Vennaro. After walking the first two batters, Vennaro struck out two of the next three batters to work a scoreless inning. Noah Campbell started the comeback trail in the fifth with a two-run homer to right, his fourth of the year.

Harold Chiriono was next up for the bullpen and struck out three over two scoreless innings, helped by a barehanded play by Zavier Warren at third to get Marte at first. The appearance extended Chirino’s scoreless streak to 14 innings, the longest by a Shuckers pitcher in 2023. Then, Robbie Baker entered for the seventh and held the Lookouts scoreless with two strikeouts.

In the eighth, Jackson Chourio walked with one out and was brought home by Freddy Zamora on a double to the wall. Chourio scored standing from first to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Baker struck out the side in the eighth, but two strikeouts by Stevie Branche in the ninth sealed the win for the Lookouts and his first save.

Myers (3-1) took the loss while reliever Michael Byrne (1-0) earned the win for the Lookouts after seven strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

The Shuckers and Lookouts are set to meet on Saturday night at AT&T Field. Christian Mejias (2-2, 4.80) is slated to start for Biloxi while Connor Phillips (0-2, 4.02) will go for Chattanooga. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 ET/6:15 CT.
