BILOXI, MS – After 20-year-old Jeferson Quero tied the game with a two-run home run in the eighth, 19-year-old top prospect Jackson Chourio launched a three-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to power the Biloxi Shuckers (22-21) to a 6-4 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (22-21) at MGM

BILOXI, MS – After 20-year-old Jeferson Quero tied the game with a two-run home run in the eighth, 19-year-old top prospect Jackson Chourio launched a three-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to power the Biloxi Shuckers (22-21) to a 6-4 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (22-21) at MGM Park on Friday night. The walk-off home run was Chourio’s second walk-off blast of the year.

The Biscuits struck first after Ronny Simon was brought home by an Austin Shenton single in the first. From there, Shuckers’ starter Christian Mejias held Montgomery scoreless over the next four innings. The Shuckers tied it at one in the fourth on an RBI single from Freddy Zamora, his 23rd RBI of the year.

Mejias continued into the sixth, tying his career-high with six innings and finishing with a season-high nine strikeouts. He also struck out the final batter in each of his final five innings.

However, before Mejias finished the sixth, the Biscuits took a 2-1 lead on a solo shot from Shenton. In the seventh, the Biscuits struck again, this time on an RBI fielder’s choice from Evan Edwards that scored Heriberto Hernandez.

The Shuckers bounced back in the eighth with a game-tying home run from Quero, his team-leading ninth of the year. The 419-foot blast cleared the wall in right-center, just past Matthew Dyer’s leap.

The game continued scoreless in the top of the ninth thanks to three straight strikeouts from Cam Robinson after allowing a lead-off single. In the bottom half, reliever Emmanuel Mejia retired the side in order to send the game to extras.

A leadoff single from Simon in the 10th scored the placed runner Gionti Turner, and two more singles loaded the bases with no one out. Zach Vennaro entered for Biloxi, and got the first out on a fielder’s choice. One batter later, Lamar Sparks caught a fly ball in right and fired a dart to the plate that caught Tristen Peters trying to tag from third for the final out of the inning.

Down 4-3, Tyler Black worked a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 10th before Chourio launched a 372-foot home run to score Black and Sparks, the placed runner at second. Vennaro (1-1) earned the win while Mejia (0-2) took the loss for Montgomery.

The two teams are set to meet on Saturday night at 6:35 for the series’ fifth game. The Shuckers will host Educator Appreciation Night at MGM Park to honor local teachers and educators on the Coast. Educators can purchase a $10 reserved-level ticket with a valid ID at the MGM Park Box Office or by contacting a sales representative.
