BILOXI, MS – Behind a two extra-base hit night from Wes Clarke in his first game back from the injured list and six shutout innings from TJ Shook, the two former college teammates lifted the Biloxi Shuckers (14-14) to a 5-0 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (15-13) at Shuckers Ballpark

BILOXI, MS – Behind a two extra-base hit night from Wes Clarke in his first game back from the injured list and six shutout innings from TJ Shook, the two former college teammates lifted the Biloxi Shuckers (14-14) to a 5-0 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (15-13) at Shuckers Ballpark on Tuesday night. The win was Biloxi’s fifth shutout win of the season.

The Shuckers, with Wes Clarke and Brock Wilken back in the lineup for the first time in almost three weeks, immediately gave Biloxi a 2-0 lead on a two-RBI double from Clarke in his first at-bat in the first inning. Three batters later, Ernesto Martinez Jr. drove in his team-leading 16th RBI of the year, increasing the lead to 3-0. In the fourth, Clarke hammered a 106 MPH home run to left, traveling 377 feet before bouncing off Callivet Street. The two-run blast extended Biloxi’s lead to 5-0 and gave Clarke four RBI on the day.

On the mound, Shuckers’ starter TJ Shook retired each of the first 15 batters he faced and struck out seven, taking a perfect game bid into the sixth. Tanner Murray singled to lead off the inning, but Shook worked around the single to finish his night with six shutout innings, marking the fourth time in his career with at least six shutout innings. Shook also set a new season-high with eight strikeouts and needed just 69 pitches to complete his night. Out of the bullpen, Shuckers’ reliever Shane Smith retired nine of the 10 batters he faced and struck out five. His three shutout innings earned him his first save of the season. Shook (2-3) earned the win while Ian Seymour (1-2) took the loss.

Outside of Clarke’s multi-hit effort, Ernesto Martinez Jr. tallied his eighth multi-hit performance of the year and made his first start in centerfield since July 18, 2021.

The Shuckers continue the series with the team’s annual Education Day on Wednesday with a special 11:05 a.m. start.
