MONTGOMERY, AL – With an Austin Shenton two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, the Biloxi Shuckers (31-31) fell in walk-off fashion for the fourth time against the Montgomery Biscuits (31-31) at Riverwalk Stadium, falling 6-4 on Saturday night. With the loss, the Shuckers stayed six games behind the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the Southern League South Division with seven games remaining in the first half.

Shuckers’ starter Tobias Myers turned in one of his best starts of 2023, throwing six innings with seven strikeouts and two runs allowed. The Biscuits took a 1-0 lead in the second off an RBI single from Diego Infante. Two innings later, Tristen Peters led it off with a solo home run that made it 2-0.

From there, Myers retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced, including eight straight to end the appearance with five strikeouts.

In the sixth, the Shuckers exploded to give Myers the lead. After three walks loaded the bases, Carlos Rodriguez drove in two with a single to left, tying the game at two. A wild pitch then allowed Freddy Zamora to score from third and Tristen Lutz’s sacrifice fly to center scored Rodriguez, giving Biloxi a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Erik Ostberg drove in Diego Infante with a single to left and Ronny Simon drove in Ostberg with a single to right to tie the game at four. Over the next two innings, Biloxi had runners in scoring position but failed to score after four strikeouts from the Biscuits’ pitching staff. In the ninth, Tyler Black reached for the first time in the game on a catcher’s interference, ending his franchise-record 35-game on-base streak.

Then, after a leadoff walk to Heriberto Hernandez and two strikeouts, Austin Shenton, who had entered the game in the seventh as a pinch-hitter, launched a home run to right-center. The home run was his 11th of the year, and gave Montgomery a 6-4 win.

T.J. Shook (2-3) took the loss for Biloxi while Enmanuel Mejia (2-2) earned the win for Montgomery.

The two teams are set to meet at Riverwalk Stadium on Sunday at 3:33 p.m. for the final game of the series and Biloxi’s 12-game road trip finale. Right-hander Christian Mejias (4-3, 5.37) is set to start for Biloxi against righty Sean Hunley (2-1, 1.04).
