BILOXI, MS – After the Biloxi Shuckers (25-25) took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (31-19) scored 11 unanswered runs in the middle innings as the Shuckers fell, 11-2, on Saturday night at MGM Park. With the win, Pensacola clinched at least a split in the six-game series.

Biloxi opened the scoring in the first when Zavier Warren lined a single to left that scored Jackson Chourio from third. From there, the Pensacola offense caught fire, scoring in each of the next five innings.

In the second, an RBI infield single from Griffin Conine tied the game at one. Pensacola took the lead in the second on an RBI single from Victor Mesa Jr. They then added another an inning later when Will Banfield crushed a home run off the batter’s eye in center that gave Pensacola a 3-1 lead.

The fifth inning saw the Blue Wahoos break the game open with five runs. First, Mesa Jr. tallied his second RBI single of the game to bring home Troy Johnston. Then, the next batter, José Devers, smashed a three-run home that made it 7-1. They tallied their eighth run with a 420-foot home run from Griffin Conine two batters later. In the sixth, Dane Myers drove in one with a single before he was brought home by Mesa Jr.’s two-run shot that made it 11-1.

The Shuckers broke the run with an inside-the-park home run by Tristen Lutz in the eighth inning. The ball smashed off the wall in right-center, just past Mesa Jr.’s diving attempt. Lutz scampered home ahead of the throw for the first Shuckers’ inside-the-park home run since 2018.

Blue Wahoos’ starter Patrick Monteverde (6-1) earned the win after allowing an unearned run in five innings of work. Nick Bennett (2-2) took the loss for Biloxi after three innings in his second start of the year.

The two teams will meet for the series finale on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Justin Jarvis is set to start for Biloxi after leading the Shuckers to a 3-2 win in the series opener on Tuesday. Jonathan Bermudez is set to start for Pensacola.
