The Biloxi Shuckers (13-21) picked up their first extra-innings win of the season topping the Mississippi Braves (18-16) 4-3 on Friday night at MGM Park.

Justin Dean, the AA-South leader in stolen bases, came in to pinch run in place of Drew Lugbauer to start off the tenth inning. RHP Brandon Webb (W, 2-1, BS,2) then induced a ground out by Jefrey Ramos to record the first out of the extra frame. The Shuckers then intentionally walked Greyson Jenista, putting runners on the corners with one out. Hendrik Clementina came up to the plate and hit a hard ground ball right back at Ryan Aguilar at first base. Aguilar snared the pitch, looked the runner Dean back to third and stepped down the line applying the tag to Clementina. Webb picked up his second strikeout of the game when he got Jacob Pearson to chase after a 2-1 pitch, stranding two men on base in a scoreless tenth for the M-Braves.

The Shuckers started their half of the tenth by sending Mitch Longo to run in place of the designated hitter Lucas Erceg, with Tristen Lutz coming up to bat. Lutz moved the walk-off run in to scoring position with a fly ball out to center that allowed Longo to tag and advance to third. The Braves chose to intentionally walk Chad Spanberger to face Cam Devanney instead. After a quick visit to the mound for the Brave’s closer RHP Brandon White (L, 0-1), Devanney attacked the first pitch he saw sending a fly ball out towards the left field line. Ramos raced over and made the grab, but the throw home wouldn’t be able to catch Longo, giving the Shuckers a 4-3 walk-off win.

The late rally for the Shuckers was sparked in the 8th inning. With one out already on the board Tristen Lutz swung and missed at a breaking ball. The pitch, however, got away from the catcher Clementina, allowing Lutz to reach first. Chad Spanberger followed Lutz and sent the first pitch RHP Josh Graham (BS,2) out to right for a two-run home run to give the Shuckers a 3-2 lead.

Brice Turang got the opportunity to extend his hitting streak to 15 games in the bottom of the ninth with a first pitch double to left. The hit, which tied the franchise’s longest hitting streak, unfortunately came to nothing as Graham induced a pop out to second and got a strikeout to retire the side.

The Shuckers also got a huge boost from RHP Andy Otero who came on in the fifth inning in relief of RHP Jesus Castillo and proceeded to throw four perfect innings with three strikeouts. The four innings were the longest outing of the 2021 season for Otero, and his three strike outs tied for his season high.

The M-Braves picked up two solo shot home runs early on, the first one coming off the bat of Drew Lugbauer, his fourth of the year. Riley Unroe then hit his first home run of the season in the top of the fourth. The Braves third run came in the bottom of the ninth when C.J. Alexander hit a two-out double to drive in Unroe and tie the game.

Biloxi continues their series against the M-Braves on Saturday night at MGM Park. The Shuckers will send LHP Ethan Small (1-1, 2.60) to the mound opposite Mississippi RHP Nolan Kingham (2-1, 4.05) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9, online here or on the MiLB App.
