BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers, Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers have announced that Hunter Reed will become the new General Manager of the franchise. Reed was named interim GM after the departure of Chuck Arnold in December.
Reed will begin his second season with the Shuckers in 2018, after serving as Assistant General Manager during the 2017 season. Before his time on the gulf coast, he worked for 13 seasons in the Appalachian League and 12 of those with the Greeneville Astros. Reed was named Assistant General Manager in 2007 and served in that position for ten seasons.
"Hunter will do an excellent job as our General Manager," stated Biloxi Shuckers President Ken Young. "He's been in professional baseball for 14 years and brings a career of experience to this role. Hunter will continue to be a great leader in the Gulf Coast community."
The community has always been in the forefront for Reed, serving currently in the Kiwanis Club of Biloxi and Towns Around Biloxi Parrot Head Club. Previously, he was President of the Kiwanis Club of Greeneville, TN.
During Reed's time in Greeneville, the Astros were awarded the Appalachian League Promotional Award of Excellence from 2007-2009; Baseball America's Bob Freitas Award (Short Season) in 2008 and the Appalachian League Community Service Award in 2016. The Astros took home the Appalachian League Championship during the 2015 season.
"I truly could not be more excited about continuing to work with such a tremendous staff in this great community that has become our home," said Reed. "I am thankful for Ken Young giving me this opportunity and for Chuck Arnold leaving behind a great foundation with the Shuckers. We will continue striving to provide outstanding customer service and a fun, first-class fan experience for all Shuckers games at MGM Park."
Before being named Assistant General Manager for the Astros, Reed served as the Director of Marketing and Media Relations during the 2006 season, and he worked as an operations assistant during the 2005 season.
Reed's professional experience also includes the classroom, serving as adjunct faculty at East Tennessee State University, teaching Sports Marketing and Public Relations courses.
Reed received his B.S. (2001) and M.A. (2005) in Sport Management from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. Hunter and his wife Sabrina are each originally from East Tennessee but reside now in Ocean Springs, MS.
